Why do we tend to respect the dead more than the living?

I beleive, humankind tend to respect the dead more than the living for a very simple reason. The dead are no longer able to defend themselves. When someone criticises another behind their backs, that person has a certain percentage, even if is is extremely small, of finding out and defend themselves against the criticism. However, when a person has passed away, that person is no longer able to defend against anyone disrespecting them. Therefore, despite the fact that someone could defend them (the diseased person) it will not be the same. As a result, I beleive that is the reason behind the fact that humankind tend to have a higher sense of respect towards the dead, than towards the living.

That is what I think, what do you beleive about this?

¿Por qué tendemos a respetar más a los muertos que a los vivos?

Creo que la humanidad tiende a respetar a los muertos más que a los vivos por una razón muy simple. Los muertos ya no pueden defenderse. Cuando alguien critica a otra a sus espaldas, esa persona tiene un cierto porcentaje, incluso si es extremadamente pequeño, de descubrirlo y defenderse de las críticas. Sin embargo, cuando una persona ha fallecido, esa persona ya no puede defenderse contra nadie que le falta al respeto. Por lo tanto, a pesar del hecho de que alguien podría defenderlos (al fallecido/a), no sería lo mismo. Como resultado, creo que esa es la razón detrás del hecho de que la humanidad tiende a tener un mayor sentido de respeto hacia los muertos, que hacia los vivos.

Eso es lo que pienso, ¿que crees tú?
